Peshawar: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has made a major breakthrough in the Rs. 40 billion Kohistan mega scandal by arresting 8 more individuals, bringing the total arrests to 26.

The scandal, which occurred between 2019 and December 2024, caused billions of rupees in losses to the national treasury. During the PTI government, government officials and bank authorities colluded in the massive fraud.

The mastermind of the scandal, C&W head clerk Qaiser Iqbal, had already been arrested earlier. In the latest operation, NAB arrested government officials, contractors, and their relatives involved in the scam.

NAB’s investigation revealed that billions were siphoned off through fake companies and forged documents. Authorities recovered and froze assets worth billions, including Rs. 158 crore in cash, foreign currency, and over 3 kilograms of gold.

Additionally, 114 bank accounts holding Rs. 579 crore were frozen, and 88 luxury vehicles were confiscated.

This crackdown highlights NAB’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and recover stolen public funds in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
