Pakistan strongly condemns Israel’s ‘sovereignty’ plan for occupied West Bank

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemned Israel’s latest move to extend what it called its “sovereignty” over parts of the Occupied West Bank, including illegal settlements. The government called the step a clear violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said that the draft law introduced in the Israeli parliament to annex parts of the Occupied Palestinian Territories was another unlawful attempt to change the internationally accepted status of the West Bank.

“These actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law, relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people,” the spokesperson said. “Such provocative and unilateral measures threaten regional peace and stability while undermining global efforts to find a just and lasting resolution to the Palestine issue.”

Pakistan called on the international community to take quick and firm action to stop these illegal steps and hold the Israeli authorities responsible for continuously ignoring international rules and humanitarian laws.

Reaffirming its full support for the Palestinian people, the spokesperson said Pakistan would continue to work with global and regional partners to defend their rights, including their right to self-determination, peace, justice, and dignity.

“Pakistan stands firmly with the people of Palestine in their legitimate struggle for freedom and justice,” the statement added, stressing that any effort to justify occupation or annexation would never be accepted by the world.

The Foreign Office also repeated Pakistan’s firm position in favor of creating an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.
