Punjab Government Plans to Provide Beef and Mutton at Lower Prices Amid Price Surge

23 October, 2025 12:52

In an effort to combat the soaring prices of meat, the Punjab government has devised a plan to provide beef and mutton to Lahore residents at significantly lower prices. This move comes in response to the sharp rise in meat costs, which has been exacerbated by the ongoing agricultural and livestock impacts from recent floods.

Sources from the Ministry of Production confirmed that the government has decided to impose a temporary ban on the export of mutton, beef, chicken, and eggs to control the local market prices. With meat prices skyrocketing across the province, including Lahore, mutton is currently being sold at Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000 per kilogram, far above the official rate of Rs 1,600 per kg. Beef, meanwhile, is being sold well above its official price of Rs 800 per kg.

The government’s plan aims to ensure that meat is sold at official prices within Lahore, addressing the price disparity and making beef and mutton more affordable for the residents. By curbing exports, the Punjab government hopes to stabilize the market and lower the prices of both mutton and chicken.
