TLP Officially Banned; Federal Government Issues Notification
Federal cabinet approves ban on TLP under PM Shehbazβs chairmanship
The federal government on Friday officially banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), declaring the religious group a proscribed organization under Pakistanβs Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
According to the official notification issued by the Interior Ministry, the decision was made after gathering evidence linking TLP to acts of terrorism and violent activities across the country. The notification stated that the group has been listed in the First Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act under Section 11B, Clause 1A.
βThe Federal Government has reasonable grounds to believe that Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan is involved in terrorism,β the notification read.
Provinces and Security Agencies Informed
Copies of the notification have been forwarded to the governors, chief secretaries, and inspector generals (IGs) of all four provinces. Key intelligence and law enforcement agencies, including NACTA, FIA, ISI, and MI, have also been instructed to take immediate action under the new order.
The Interior Ministry emphasized strict enforcement of the ban and directed authorities to monitor TLPβs activities, assets, and communications to ensure full compliance with the proscription.
Additionally, a copy of the notification has been officially sent to TLPβs Ameer (leader), formally informing the party of its banned status.
Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, known for its hardline stance on religious matters and street demonstrations, has been under scrutiny for several years. Authorities have accused the group of inciting violence, disrupting public order, and threatening state security during protests and sit-ins.
This marks the second major crackdown on the group in recent years. The government reaffirmed its stance that no organization involved in violent or extremist activities would be allowed to operate under the countryβs laws.
Officials say the decision to proscribe TLP aims to restore law and order and curb the misuse of religion for political gains.
