Pakistan airports switch to cashless system in major upgrade

27 October, 2025 16:11

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) has announced a new plan to make all airports in the country completely cashless.

Under this plan, passengers and staff will be able to pay for all services without using cash. In partnership with the State Bank of Pakistan, QR codes will be placed at airports to enable digital payments. All airport shops and vendors will also shift to cashless systems.

The project will first start at Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad airports. In the second phase, Faisalabad, Multan, and Sialkot airports will also be included.

According to officials, cashless services will make operations smoother, safer, and more transparent. It will help reduce the risk of theft and speed up payments at food courts, shops, and ticket counters.

Passengers will enjoy quick, contactless payments, saving time and ensuring safety — especially during busy travel hours.

This step is part of Pakistan’s efforts to modernize its airports and bring them up to international standards with advanced digital systems.
