PTA alerts public as fake job scams spread on social media
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a strong warning to job seekers after reports of scammers using social media to post fake job offers. These fraudsters attract people with “too good to be true” promises of high salaries and easy work hours.
According to PTA, these fake ads are designed to steal money, personal data, and sensitive information from citizens. “Scammers posing as recruitment agents collect photos, locations, and personal details under the guise of surveys and research,” officials said. “This information can be misused against our citizens and the country.”
PTA advised people to stay cautious, especially when offers seem unrealistically attractive or when recruiters only communicate through WhatsApp. Requests for ID numbers, home addresses, or personal photos are major warning signs. Job seekers are also urged to avoid downloading unknown apps or sharing their live location with unverified contacts.
The telecom regulator encouraged citizens to always verify job offers through the company’s official website or by contacting its HR department directly. PTA also urged the public to report any suspicious advertisements immediately to prevent others from falling victim to such scams.
