How Karachi Motorists Find Their E-Challan Alert? Step-by-Step Guide

29 October, 2025 15:18

The Karachi Traffic Police has unveiled a mobile application titled “TRACS Citizen”, designed to provide motorists with immediate e-challan notifications and complete access to their vehicle and violation records.

This launch follows the implementation of the city’s AI-powered e-challan mechanism, which utilizes an extensive network of CCTV cameras to electronically detect and record traffic offenses.

Technology Behind TRACS (TRAX)

The Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS), also known as TRAX, operates through a sophisticated integration of artificial intelligence and real-time data analytics. At present, the framework is supported by 200 high-definition surveillance cameras installed across Karachi. In subsequent phases, coverage will be expanded to 12,000 cameras, with plans to extend the initiative to major districts throughout Sindh.

Key Features of the Application

  • The app is accessible on both Android and iOS platforms.

  • Upon login, all vehicles registered under the user’s CNIC are automatically displayed.

  • Users can securely access details regarding their vehicles, e-challans, and violation records.

How to Use the App

  1. Download

    • Android: Google Play Store

    • iOS: App Store

  2. Register

    • Input CNIC, name, mobile number, and email.

    • Complete OTP verification.

  3. Lodge or Track a Complaint

    • Choose a relevant category (e.g., Traffic Police for e-challan issues).

    • Provide a detailed description and attach supporting evidence.

    • Receive a unique tracking ID instantly.

  4. Track Complaint Progress

    • Use the “Track Complaint” option to view updates.

  5. Resolution Process

    • Complaints are forwarded to the appropriate departments, such as the Sindh IG Traffic Office for challan-related concerns.

    • Average resolution time: 7–21 days.

    • Appeals may be filed if necessary.

Violation Alerts and Notifications

The TRACS Citizen app issues real-time alerts for traffic rule violations. Motorists receive an initial warning followed by the official e-challan, allowing them to track the status of issued fines and review their violation history within the app.

Educational Function

The app serves not only as a monitoring tool but also as an educational resource, helping users analyze their driving behavior and encouraging safer road practices.

How E-Challan Tracking Operates

The digital e-challan system embedded in the app has replaced the former manual ticketing approach, ensuring greater transparency and enhanced accountability in traffic enforcement.

  • AI-Powered Cameras: Integrated cameras automatically identify and record speeding, lane changes, and other violations.

  • Automated Issuance: E-challans are generated automatically based on camera-captured evidence.

  • Proof and Payment: Each challan includes photo or video proof and may be paid online via secure payment gateways.

Objective of the Initiative

This project represents a digital transformation effort by the Karachi Traffic Police, aimed at improving traffic regulation, enhancing public safety, and ensuring transparent enforcement of road laws.

Note: For e-challan-specific tracking in Sindh, users can access real-time monitoring and fine payment via the TRACS (Traffic Regulation and Citation System) app—launched in October 2025—which operates through AI-powered cameras. For emergency assistance, motorists may continue using the Sindh Police app.
