Punjab Sets Up New Authority to Boost Tourism, Heritage
The Punjab government has announced the creation of a new authority to promote tourism and preserve heritage across the province. The initiative, proposed under the Punjab Tourism and Heritage Authority Act 2025, was recently presented in the provincial assembly.
The authority will be tasked with developing policies and guidelines to boost tourism, working closely with relevant departments to ensure coordinated efforts. The Chief Minister will serve as the chairperson, while the Tourism Minister will act as vice-chairperson. Secretaries of Tourism, Finance, and Planning & Development will also be part of the authority as members.
In addition to policy-making, the authority will focus on creating eco-friendly tourist sites, mapping key attractions, and maintaining comprehensive records of tourist locations throughout Punjab. Officials say this step is aimed at enhancing the tourism sector, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting sustainable travel experiences in the province.
This move is expected to provide a structured approach to tourism development, attract more visitors, and create opportunities for economic growth in Punjab.
