Trump Praises Field Marshal Asim Munir as a “Great Fighter” at APEC Summit
Seoul: US President Donald Trump praised Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir during a luncheon at the APEC CEO Summit in South Korea, calling him a “great fighter” and a strong military leader.
Trump said, “Both Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Field Marshal are good men. The Field Marshal is a brave and powerful soldier.” His remarks have been viewed positively by Pakistan’s military and diplomatic circles.
Speaking at the event, Trump also recalled past tensions between Pakistan and India, saying that both nuclear-armed nations were “on the brink of war” during his presidency. He claimed to have intervened to defuse the situation, warning both countries that if they went to war, the U.S. would impose a 250% trade tax on them. “It meant you would never do business again,” he said. “Within 48 hours, the war threat was over.”
Analysts say Trump’s comments reflect a diplomatic success for Pakistan’s military leadership, as his praise for Field Marshal Asim Munir is seen as a sign of growing international recognition of Pakistan’s role in regional stability.
