Istanbul Talks: Interim Understanding and a Step Toward Regional Peace
Pakistan, Afghanistan Talks Enter Final Round in Istanbul
For the past six days, crucial negotiations have been underway in Istanbul between delegations from Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban. The primary objective of these talks was to achieve progress on Pakistanβs core demand: that Afghan soil must not be used for terrorism against Pakistan, and that decisive action be taken against India-backed terrorist groups particularly Fitna al-Khawarij (TTP) and Fitna al-Hindustan (BLA).
At several points, the negotiations appeared to be deadlocked. Until yesterday, it seemed that no conclusive outcome would be reached, and the Pakistani delegation had begun preparing to return. However, at the request of the host nations, TΓΌrkiye and Qatar, and following an appeal from the Afghan Taliban delegation, Pakistan once again agreed to give peace another chance and continue the dialogue process.
During todayβs session, both sides reached an interim mutual understanding, the key points of which are as follows:
1. All parties agreed that the talks were held with the intent to solidify the ceasefire agreed upon in Doha.
2. All parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintain the ceasefire, conditional on the assurance that Afghan soil will not be used for terrorism against Pakistan. This means the Afghan Taliban will take clear, verifiable, and effective action against terrorist groups such as Fitna al-Khawarij (TTP) and Fitna al-Hindustan (BLA).
3. The next round of talks will take place in Istanbul on November 6, to finalize further details and ensure implementation.
4. A Joint Monitoring and Verification Mechanism will be established to ensure peace and to hold any violating party accountable through appropriate measures.
5. TΓΌrkiye and Qatar, as hosts and mediators, appreciated the active participation of both sides and reaffirmed their commitment to continue facilitating both parties for lasting peace and stability.
Throughout the negotiations, the Pakistani delegation remained firm, principled, and evidence-based in its stance. The professionalism, prudence, and logical strength with which Pakistan presented its case stood as an example of diplomatic excellence. Ultimately, the interests of the people prevailed, compelling the Afghan delegation to agree to an interim understanding.
This interim progress should be recognized as a positive milestone not only for the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan but also for regional peace, stability, and global security. It represents a triumph of reason, patience and national interest in the face of adversarial propaganda, obstacles, and destructive intent.
Pakistanβs participation in the talks marked by seriousness, wisdom and dignity deserves appreciation. The mediation and hospitality of brotherly nations TΓΌrkiye and Qatar played a pivotal role in making this interim success possible.
The state, leadership, and people of Pakistan remain committed to the pursuit of peace. However, it is also clearly declared that no compromise will be made on national sovereignty, national interest, or the security of the people. Pakistanβs political and military leadership stand united, resolute and determined assuring the nation that they are fully prepared, equipped, and steadfast in confronting every internal and external threat.
