Pakistan Tells UN: Kashmir Was Not, Is Not, and Will Never Be Part of India
New York: Pakistan’s First Secretary to the United Nations, Sarfaraz Ahmed Gohar, gave a strong response to India during a UN General Assembly session, declaring that Kashmir “was not, is not, and will never be a part of India.”
Speaking at the UN on Friday, Gohar said that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory, and its final status must be decided through a UN-supervised plebiscite. He reminded the international community that UN Security Council resolutions guarantee the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people and that India is bound under Article 25 of the UN Charter to implement those resolutions.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, urged the Human Rights Council to take a more active role in supporting oppressed nations. He said the Council must protect human rights in all occupied territories and work without discrimination.
Iftikhar added that lasting peace is impossible without ending foreign occupation and ensuring the right to self-determination for all peoples under oppression.
