Sindh Extends Deadline for Ajrak Number Plates by Two Months
The Sindh Department of Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics has extended the deadline for replacing vehicles’ Ajrak-design number plates by two months, giving citizens additional time to comply with the new regulations. Previously, the deadline was set for October 31, 2025, but the new cutoff has now been moved to December 31, 2025. This extension follows an earlier deadline adjustment made on August 4.
The decision was taken on the instructions of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who directed the extension during a meeting with Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla.
The move aims to facilitate public convenience while ensuring the successful implementation of modern number plates equipped with advanced security features. Speaking on the initiative, Minister Chawla said the updated plates will “significantly improve the security situation in the province.”
During the meeting, Bilawal Bhutto was briefed on the progress of Ajrak-number plate implementation, including challenges faced by citizens, such as long waiting times, delayed issuance, and strict enforcement of e-challans. The government emphasized that the step has been taken to “curb vehicle theft and to improve the tax collection system.”
Additionally, the minister informed the chairman about other provincial matters, including the Narcotics Department’s operations, which have led to the seizure of drugs worth seven billion rupees across Sindh.
The Sindh government’s decision to introduce Ajrak-design plates for all registered vehicles has sparked public debate, but the latest extension provides relief to citizens while ensuring enhanced security and regulatory compliance.
