Afghan Taliban Acting as Proxies for Foreign Elements: Khawaja Asif

Islamabad: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the Afghan Taliban are acting as proxies for foreign elements.

In a statement, Khawaja Asif said that the people of Pakistan, along with the political and military leadership, are fully united on the country’s policy regarding Afghanistan. He added that there is a national consensus on a comprehensive strategy for dealing with the situation.

The minister said that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are well aware of the terrorism carried out by Indian proxies, and there is no confusion about it.

He further stated that the Taliban government in Afghanistan is facing serious internal divisions. According to Asif, the rights of women, children, and access to education are being denied in Afghanistan, and even after four years, the Taliban have failed to fulfill their promises to the international community.

Khawaja Asif said the Afghan Taliban are still playing the role of a proxy for foreign powers. He stressed that Pakistan’s Afghanistan policy is based on national interest, regional peace, and stability.

He also made it clear that Pakistan will continue taking decisive actions against cross-border terrorism. “False statements cannot change facts — only practical steps can build trust,” the defence minister added.
