Free, Informed and Responsible Journalism Is the Foundation of Democracy: PM
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that free, informed, and responsible journalism is the foundation of a democratic society.
In his message on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, the Prime Minister praised journalists as “champions of truth” who play a vital role in delivering facts to the public.
He condemned all forms of violence and threats against journalists, calling them an attack on freedom of expression. Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to journalists who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
The Prime Minister expressed solidarity with the families of journalists who lost their lives and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for media professionals.
He assured that the government will guarantee effective investigation and justice in all crimes against journalists and take legal action against those responsible.
Shehbaz Sharif urged media organizations and civil society to play their part in protecting journalists, saying that a free press is essential for a strong and transparent Pakistan.
