Karachi is activating a modern traffic monitoring system across the city. Traffic cameras now issue automated e‑challans for violations. Officials say the system is working in about 40 % of the city.

Currently, 1,717 smart cameras are operational. District South is fully covered. Important roads like Shahrah‑e‑Faisal are also part of the system.

Traffic cameras monitor several violations:

• Exceeding speed limits

• Running red lights

• Illegal U‑turns

• One‑way rule violations

• Riding motorcycles without helmets

• Not wearing seat belts

Violations are immediately recorded in the digital system. E‑challans are sent to the registered address of the vehicle owner.

The e‑challan system is active in Malir, Korangi, District East, Kemari, and District Central. Officials urge drivers to follow traffic rules. This will reduce accidents and improve traffic flow.

The only way to avoid fines is responsible driving. Even small carelessness can result in heavy e‑challans. Drivers must follow speed limits, wear helmets and seat belts, and obey all traffic signals.

Authorities plan to expand the system citywide. The network aims to make Karachi roads safer and reduce traffic accidents.
