Drug Smuggling Nexus from Afghanistan Exposed in KP

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Authorities and local sources have revealed a large-scale drug smuggling network from Afghanistan into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Tirah Valley.

The drug mafia in Afghanistan is reportedly working with Khwarij militants, using smuggling profits to fund illegal activities and terrorism in the region.

Sources say that around 12,000 acres of land in Khyber and Tirah are used for drug cultivation, generating profits worth 18 to 25 million acres’ equivalent. A portion of these profits goes directly to Khwarij groups, who use the money to protect illegal operations and fund terrorism.

Local informants also claim that drug cultivators receive political protection, making it difficult for authorities to conduct operations. The alliance between political figures, criminals, and terrorists has led to strong resistance against law enforcement in the region.

This year alone, 198 people have been killed or injured in Khyber District due to violence linked to this nexus, sources say. They hold the political-criminal-terrorist alliance responsible for these casualties.

Officials warn that tackling the drug trade and the political-terror nexus is critical to restoring law and order in the region.
