Millions Rally in Iran to Mark US Embassy Takeover Anniversary

04 November, 2025 16:10

Tehran: Hundreds of thousands of Iranians marched across Tehran and more than 900 cities on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of the 1979 US Embassy takeover, known in Iran as the National Day of Fighting Global Arrogance.

Students, clerics, families, and veterans joined the rallies, chanting slogans such as “Death to America” and “Death to Israel”, while condemning US and Israeli actions — including their recent attacks on Iran in June.

In Tehran, the main march began at Palestine Square and ended at the site of the former US Embassy. Demonstrators carried Iranian flags and portraits of martyrs killed in US and Israeli strikes. Officials, military leaders, and families of war veterans also attended.

The event featured speeches, revolutionary songs, and exhibitions showcasing decades of what organizers called Western and Israeli crimes. Along the route, protesters burned symbolic US and Israeli flags, and a mock trial was held for former US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The final statement read in Tehran reaffirmed Iran’s resistance against US and Israeli influence and its continued support for Palestine. It called for unity under Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, protection of Iran’s military and economic independence, and expansion of scientific and technological progress.

Participants vowed to uphold the values of the Islamic Revolution and honor the sacrifices of martyrs and students who helped shape Iran’s revolutionary history.

The day, known as 13 Aban, holds deep symbolic meaning for Iranians. It commemorates:

  • The 1964 exile of Imam Khomeini,
  • The 1978 killing of student protesters, and
  • The 1979 takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran.

For many in Iran, it represents resistance, national pride, and defiance against foreign domination.
