PM’s Defamation Case Nears End After 8 Years: Atta Tarar
Lahore: Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar said that the defamation case filed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif against the founder of PTI is nearing its conclusion after eight years.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Tarar said the Prime Minister had filed the defamation suit in 2017 after the PTI founder made false and baseless allegations against him.
“This case has been ongoing for eight years. The PTI founder’s lawyers took over 120 adjournments but failed to present any evidence,” Tarar said.
He added that the PTI founder’s statements were “false and ridiculous” and that the truth will soon be proven in court.
Tarar also referred to the PTI founder as a convicted criminal serving jail time in corruption cases, saying, “He has nothing left to say in his defense.”
The minister further said that constitutional amendments are being considered to strengthen Pakistan’s judicial system, urging people to avoid speculation about these reforms.
Discussing foreign policy, Tarar blamed the previous PTI government for damaging Pakistan’s relations with friendly countries and pushing the economy to the brink of default.
“The PTI founder once claimed he would rather commit suicide than go to the IMF, but he not only went to the IMF — he failed to meet its conditions,” Tarar added.
He said that under the current leadership, Pakistan has regained respect internationally, noting that the country’s strength was recognized globally after its victory in the war against India.
