Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi inaugurated the newly renovated Faisalabad Railway Station on Wednesday.

While talking to the media, the minister said that the upgraded waiting lounge can now seat more than 500 passengers. He thanked local industrialist Mian Muhammad Idrees and the city’s business community for helping complete the renovation work.

Abbasi also announced that the Rawalpindi Railway Station will be inaugurated soon, showing the government’s focus on improving rail tracks and passenger facilities across Pakistan.

He added that free Wi-Fi has been activated at five major stations — Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. A 500-kilometer section of the Karachi–Rohri track is also being upgraded.

Over the past eight months, several development projects have started, including the modernization of the Shalimar Express with better facilities. New passenger service centers will also be launched through public-private partnerships, with stronger security arrangements in place.

In a separate initiative, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the restoration of a 144-year-old railway station building in Gujranwala. The restored site, called “Adabi Bethak”, includes a Reading Corner and a modern cafeteria inspired by Lahore’s famous Pak Tea House, offering residents a new cultural and social space.
