Federal Cabinet Approves Formation of Army Rocket Force

The federal cabinet approved the 27th constitutional amendment.

An important meeting of the federal cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in which Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar briefed the cabinet on the 27th Amendment.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting of the federal cabinet via video link from Baku, Azerbaijan.

Khawaja Asif, Bilal Azhar Kayani, Rana Tanveer, Rana Mubashir, Aun Chaudhry, Dr. Shahzara Mansab, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Malik Rashid Ahmed are participating in the meeting.

In addition, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan is also participating in the meeting at the Prime Minister’s House.

Earlier, sources said that three amendments will be approved in the meeting. The amendments will include the creation of a constitutional court, the transfer of judges, and changes to Article 243. A total of 46 amendments will be made to various provisions of the constitution in the 27th Amendment.

According to sources, after the Army, Air Force, and Navy, the fourth force will now be the “Army Rocket Force” (ARFC). The Chief of Army Staff will also be called the “Commander of Defense Forces.” All coordination will be done by the Chief of Army Staff himself, according to the Commander of Defense Forces.

Sources say that the Rocket Force also includes the Strategic Plans Division (SPD). The SPD previously worked under the Chairman Joint Staff. Now the post of Chairman Joint Staff will be abolished and the Commander of the Defense Forces will take its place.

According to sources, after approval from the cabinet meeting today, the amendments will be presented in the Senate session. After being presented in the Senate, a joint committee of both houses of the Senate and the National Assembly will be formed to consider it. The committee will give its report on all the amendments. Various representatives will also be specially included in the committee.
