148th Birth Anniversary of the Poet of the East, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal
Today, November 9, marks the 148th birth anniversary of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal — the great philosopher, poet of the East, and national leader of Pakistan. The day is being observed with great respect and admiration across the country.
Allama Iqbal was born on November 9, 1877, in Sialkot. He devoted most of his life to philosophy, literature, and the collective progress of Muslims.
Iqbal’s poetry and philosophy awakened Muslims and gave them a new direction. His ideas laid the foundation for the creation of Pakistan and inspired the Muslim Ummah to realize their rights and the power of selfhood (khudi).
His poetry carries a unique message of inspiration and strength that united Muslims of not only the subcontinent but also the entire world for a greater cause.
Verses such as “Khudi ko kar buland itna ke har taqdeer se pehle,” “Sitaron se aage jahan aur bhi hain,” and “Nahin hai na-umeed Iqbal apni takmeel se” still live in the hearts of millions.
The purpose of Iqbal’s poetry was to help people recognize their inner strength and potential so they could shape their own destiny. He believed that Muslims should seek knowledge, self-awareness, and unity to overcome challenges and earn a respected place in the world.
On Iqbal Day, various events such as seminars, poetry sessions, and discussion gatherings are being held across the country to honor his legacy and share his intellectual and spiritual message with future generations.
