Balochistan Imposes Section 144, Bans Pillion Riding and Niqab in Public

10 November, 2025 10:57

Authorities in Balochistan have imposed strict measures under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code to ensure law and order in the province. The new restrictions, which are set to remain in effect until November 30, 2025, cover a range of activities to address security concerns.

According to a notification from the Balochistan Home Department, pillion riding on motorcycles has been banned across the province. The order also prohibits the use of unregistered motorcycles, vehicles with tinted windows, and the transportation of explosive materials. In addition, covering the face or wearing a mask in public places has been banned, including the niqab. The move is part of broader security measures already in place, which also restrict the display of weapons, public gatherings of five or more people, and demonstrations or sit-ins.

Meanwhile, in Punjab, the Home Department has extended Section 144 restrictions for another seven days, now lasting until November 15. The extension includes a ban on all protests, rallies, processions, and public gatherings. The new order also prohibits gatherings of four or more people, the display of arms, the use of loudspeakers, and the distribution of sectarian or hate material. However, the restrictions do not apply to weddings, funerals, or burials.

Exemptions to the ban include government officials, law enforcement personnel on duty, and judicial officers. The use of loudspeakers is allowed only for the Azan (call to prayer) and Friday sermons.
