Section 144 Imposed Across Balochistan Amid Rising Security Concerns

10 November, 2025 09:31

Quetta: The Balochistan Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province, including the capital city Quetta, to maintain law and order as security concerns grow. The restrictions will remain in place until November 30, according to a notification issued on Sunday.

Under the order, pillion riding on motorcycles has been banned throughout the province, although women and children are exempted. The government has also prohibited the covering of faces with veils, masks, or mufflers in public places for security reasons. In addition, the use of unregistered motorcycles and dark glasses, as well as the carrying or display of weapons, has been strictly banned.

Public gatherings of more than five people, including rallies, sit-ins, and processions, are not allowed during this period. The notification also bans the transport of explosives and sulphuric acid across the province. Deputy Commissioners have been directed to submit daily reports to the Home Department to ensure that the restrictions are being properly enforced.

Officials said these measures have been taken to safeguard public safety and prevent any untoward incidents, as intelligence reports have warned of possible threats to peace and stability in the region.

Punjab Also Extends Section 144

The new restrictions in Balochistan come shortly after the Punjab government extended Section 144 for another seven days across its province. The Punjab government cited similar security concerns and banned all types of protests, gatherings, and display of weapons until November 15.

Authorities in both provinces have urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and follow the restrictions to help maintain peace and protect lives and property.
