Authorities have arrested the motorcyclist who transported the suicide bomber responsible for the deadly blast at the Islamabad District Judicial Complex in the G-11 area on Tuesday. The attack, which targeted the busy court complex, resulted in the tragic loss of 12 lives and left at least 36 others injured, including lawyers and petitioners.
According to police sources, the motorcyclist, who worked for an online service, dropped the attacker near the court complex for a fare of Rs 200. The bomber then detonated his explosives near a police vehicle, setting nearby cars ablaze and scattering debris throughout the area.
In the aftermath of the attack, police have been using Safe City cameras to trace the bomber’s movements, following his journey from Golra to G-11. Investigations revealed that the suicide bomber had arrived in Islamabad on Friday, traveling from Pirwadhai to the court complex by motorcycle.
The Islamabad blast comes just a day after a militant group infiltrated the Wana Cadet College in South Waziristan. Security forces swiftly responded to the situation, evacuating students and staff while eliminating the attackers.
Punjab Increases Security Measures
In light of the recent terrorist attacks, the Punjab Police have raised security across the province, particularly in courts and judicial areas. Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Anwar confirmed on Wednesday that enhanced security measures had been implemented, including increased patrols at judges’ residences and other sensitive locations.
IGP Anwar emphasized that a comprehensive security audit of judicial complexes, Chinese projects, and residential areas has been completed, and a foolproof security plan has been devised to protect judicial personnel and other key sites. This includes the introduction of a sticker system for vehicles entering judicial complexes and daily search operations along key routes.
Authorities continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of judicial staff and maintain stability across the region, reflecting the growing concern over recent security threats.
