27th Constitutional Amendment Renders Judiciary Ineffective, Says Asad Qaiser

13 November, 2025 20:38

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser has strongly criticized the 27th Constitutional Amendment, claiming that it has effectively rendered the judiciary ineffective. Speaking to the media, Qaiser pointed out that two senior judges had resigned following the passage of the amendment, describing their actions as a courageous stand against “unjust changes” to the country’s legal system.

“These resignations reflect integrity and resistance,” Qaiser said, commending the judges for their stance. He went on to stress that the 27th amendment was part of a broader political maneuver that undermined the independence of the judiciary.

In response to the developments, Qaiser announced that PTI would hold an important strategy meeting tomorrow at 2 PM to deliberate on the party’s next steps amid the ongoing constitutional crisis. “PTI has already boycotted the legislation related to the amendment, and we are now considering our options going forward,” he stated.

The 27th Constitutional Amendment was passed by Pakistan’s National Assembly earlier this week with overwhelming support, as 234 members voted in favor of the bill. Only four members opposed it. The bill has undergone significant revisions, including the deletion of four clauses, the amendment of three others, and the addition of a new clause. Among the key changes, the Chief Justice of Pakistan will continue to hold the title of Chief Justice, and high-ranking officials such as the President, Auditor General, and Chief Election Commissioner will now take their oaths before the Chief Justice.

Despite the passing of the amendment, Qaiser and PTI continue to voice their concerns over its impact on the judiciary and the political system.

The PTI leader emphasized that his party will continue to fight for judicial independence and would determine its next steps in the coming days.
