Pakistan Closes Afghan Border Indefinitely Citing Security Concerns

17 November, 2025 11:01

Islamabad: Pakistan has announced that it will keep its border with Afghanistan closed for an indefinite period to ensure national security and intensify action against terrorist groups.

According to official sources, the decision comes after the Afghan Taliban advised Afghan traders to reduce dependence on Pakistan and expand trade with other countries.

Officials said the border will not reopen until the banned TTP and other militant groups are completely eliminated.
They added that this move is not a routine administrative step but a major strategic policy shift.

Pakistan has already informed the Afghan Taliban leadership that no further talks will take place unless concrete action is taken against terrorist groups operating inside Afghanistan.

A senior government official said, “Our priority is the safety of our people. Trade and the economy come later. Security first, trade after — this is Islamabad’s position.”

Reports indicate that hundreds of trucks and containers have been stuck at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border for more than a month.
Currently, the border is open only for humanitarian reasons, such as the return of Afghan refugees and people stranded on both sides.
