PM Shahbaz launches modern Shalimar Express at Karachi Cantt Station

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited Karachi for a one-day tour to inaugurate the upgraded Karachi Cantt Railway Station and the new Shalimar Express. The event was attended by Railway Minister Hanif Abbasi and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

The Karachi Cantt Station has been modernized with a complete facelift. New facilities include comfortable waiting areas for passengers, modern dining rooms, and an automated ticketing system.

The upgrade work was completed in a short time under the leadership of Railway Minister Hanif Abbasi. Work on other stations in Karachi will start soon, and the historic Rohri Junction will also be upgraded after 150 years.

The railway ministry has ensured that employees’ rights are protected during outsourcing, and old buildings will also be restored.

The Shalimar Express has been fully renovated, offering both first-class and economy-class facilities. Outsourcing was used to improve the train’s quality, making it a modern and comfortable travel option for passengers.

Hanif Abbasi said, “In the last eight months, we have made significant reforms in Pakistan Railways. Under Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s guidance, we have revived the railway system and completed the upgrades quickly.”

Murad Ali Shah stated, “The Shalimar Express modernization will benefit citizens, and the Sindh government is ready to fully support these projects. We are also focusing on improving the transport sector.”

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif remarked, “Karachi is the city of lights. Under Hanif Abbasi’s leadership, Pakistan Railways is moving towards a modern system. The upgraded freight system and Karachi Circular Railway will greatly benefit the public. Partnerships with provincial governments will help expand railway services further.”

The inauguration of the Shalimar Express and Karachi Cantt Station upgrades marks a major step in modernizing Pakistan Railways.

These improvements will provide better travel facilities for passengers, strengthen freight operations, and promote collaboration with provincial governments for further railway development.
