Iran Considers New Countermeasures After IAEA Resolution
Iran, as per the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, is contemplating additional steps in response to an unlawful International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) resolution over the nation’s nuclear program.
One day after the 35-member Board of Governors of the IAEA approved the anti-Iran resolution proposed by France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States, Esmaeil Baghaei made the comments on Friday.
Tehran in return publicly announced the termination of the deal it signed in September in Cairo, Egypt, to resume cooperation with the UN’s nuclear watchdog. The relations had been suspended following the deadly US-Israel war against war in June.
“In an official letter to the Agency, we declared that the so-called Cairo agreement—which had been reached with Iran’s goodwill and after relatively long negotiations with the agency—is now canceled. Other measures are also under consideration,” Esmaeil Baghaei additionally added.
Iranian spokesmen also strongly condemn the resolution of the IAEA as a blatant misuse of the international body to advance the objective of the US and the three European countries regarding Iranian
nuclear problem.
Moreover, according to Baghaei, the IAEA’s wholly irresponsible and unjustified measures disregard the agency’s own standards and reduce the institution to a mere political instrument for placing pressure on certain member nations.
Continuing, “The resolution makes no reference whatsoever to the underlying reasons or causes of the present circumstances. Neither in the resolution nor in the statements of the three European countries and the US is there the slightest reference to the fact that Israel and the United States attacked Iran’s nuclear facilities in June , … [which led to] the cessation of the agency’s inspections and Iran’s cooperation.”
However, with 19 votes in favor, the resolution was passed, with three opposed and 12 abstentions, emphasizing that Tehran should, without delay, report on its enriched uranium stockpile and facilities damaged in the June 12-day war, even though it failed to mention Iran’s long-lasting cooperation with the IAEA.
In fact, he rejected the West’s claim of a diplomatic approach to solve Iranian nuclear concerns as utterly deceitful and hypocritical.
“Issuing the resolution itself shows the rejection of a diplomatic solution and reliance on pressure and sanctions,” the spokesman urged.
Furthermore, the Iranian Foreign Ministry previously on Friday denounced the IAEA’s illegal and unjustified resolution whose content depicted US bullying and the duplicity of the three European states.
