PTA Calls for Lower Taxes on Imported Mobile Phones
PTA alerts public as fake job scams spread on social media
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has expressed support for reducing taxes on imported mobile phones. The statement was made by Brigadier (R) Amir Shehzad, the PTA’s Director General Licensing, during an AI Conference held this week.
PTA Says Tax Collection Is FBR’s Job
Amir Shehzad explained that the PTA does not collect taxes on mobile devices. The responsibility belongs to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). He said the PTA faces the same burden as ordinary citizens when it comes to phone taxes.
PTA Also Pays Full Taxes
He clarified that PTA officials do not get free phones or special exemptions. “Just like free units, we do not receive any free phones. We pay taxes like every other citizen,” he stated.
Government Figures Also Support Tax Review
Several government personalities, including Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani and MNA Qasim Gilani, have also backed the idea of reviewing and reducing mobile phone taxes. They believe that lowering these charges can make smartphones more affordable for the public.
