Two women were arrested at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport after Customs officials caught them trying to smuggle gold and foreign currency. The incident took place earlier this week during routine checking at the international departure hall.
Customs officials said they first stopped the women for inspection after noticing suspicious behavior. During the search, the staff recovered USD 6,143 and 2 kilograms of gold from one woman. From the second woman, they recovered USD 5,746 and 1.05 kilograms of gold.
A spokesperson for the Collectorate of Customs said the total value of the seized items is around Rs11 million.
Officials confirmed that the confiscated currency and gold jewelry were taken into custody by Customs Preventive staff. Proper seizure receipts were issued. After completing the initial legal steps, an FIR was lodged against both women for violating Customs laws.
The statement also mentioned another smuggling attempt earlier this week at Sialkot International Airport. A man arriving from the UAE was stopped for allegedly trying to bring mobile phones and foreign currency into Pakistan without declaring them. The suspect admitted he had bought phones in the UAE and had entered Pakistan at least 19 times this year using different airports.
