Germany Opportunity Card — No Job Offer Needed for Pakistanis
Germany has launched a new initiative for skilled individuals from Pakistan through the Opportunity Card scheme, allowing them to travel to the European country for employment or self-employment “without an advanced work visa.”
The Opportunity Card is specifically designed for those who want to explore job opportunities in Germany but do not yet have a formal job offer. The program is part of Germany’s broader effort to address skills shortages and attract talented professionals worldwide.
How Does the Opportunity Card Work?
The Opportunity Card permits Pakistani nationals to stay in Germany for up to one year to search for work. During this period, holders can engage in full-time or part-time employment and are allowed secondary work for up to 20 hours per week. Additionally, applicants can participate in job trials for up to two weeks with potential employers as part of their job search.
To apply, candidates must meet eligibility criteria, which focus on qualifications and language skills rather than having a pre-secured job. Applications can be submitted online via the Consular Services Portal of the Federal Foreign Office [https://digital.diplo.de/chancenkarte].
Points-Based Eligibility System
The Opportunity Card operates on a points system, with a minimum of six points required for eligibility. Points are awarded based on:
- Equivalence of Qualification: Partial equivalence to German standards earns four points.
- Qualification in a Shortage Occupation: One additional point for high-demand occupations.
- Professional Experience: Two points for at least two years, three points for at least five years of relevant experience.
- Language Skills: German proficiency above A1 level earns points; B1 gives two, B2 or above gives three. C1-level English or native speakers may earn extra points.
- Age and Previous Stays: Applicants under 35 get two points, with an additional point for previous stays in Germany.
Financial Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate their ability to cover living expenses during their stay. This can be shown via a blocked bank account with at least €1,091 per month or through a formal declaration of commitment.
The Opportunity Card provides Pakistani professionals a unique pathway to explore Germany’s job market, gain international experience, and potentially secure long-term employment in Europe.
