Sindh Approves Rs25 Billion for Karachi Development
In a major move to enhance Karachi’s infrastructure, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday approved Rs25 billion for the reconstruction of 315 inner-city streets and 60 major roads in the port city. He also directed authorities to ensure proper installation of streetlights across Karachi.
According to the chief minister’s spokesperson, Abdul Rasheed Channa, CM Murad Ali Shah chaired a meeting on the city’s road reconstruction projects. The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Nasir Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, Senior Member Board of Revenue Khalid Haider Shah, and other officials.
The spokesperson quoted the chief minister as saying that heavy rains have severely damaged Karachi’s roads and ongoing mega projects have worsened traffic issues. He emphasized the need to accelerate development work so that citizens “do not face further inconvenience.”
Mayor Murtaza Wahab highlighted that 315 inner-city streets are in extremely poor condition. Following this, the chief minister instructed that all projects related to these streets be approved and completed swiftly. He also directed the relevant authorities to establish proper drainage systems alongside newly constructed streets and ensure similar arrangements for 60 major roads.
During the briefing, Mayor Wahab confirmed that the estimated cost of the development projects stands at Rs25 billion. CM Murad Ali Shah assured that “funds are not an issue; what he needs is immediate and high-quality work for the public.”
This initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to improving Karachi’s infrastructure, addressing traffic challenges, and ensuring better urban living conditions for its residents.
