FBR to Intensify Audits Across Multiple Sectors: Doctors, Saloons, & Cosmetics Sellers Under FBR’s Radar
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to speed up audits across various sectors in an effort to meet conditions set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Sources report that high-profile doctors and large beauty parlors in major cities are now under FBR’s radar.
The first phase of the audit will focus on 250 high-earning doctors in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. These doctors, who are involved in high-end practices, will be subject to thorough income reviews. FBR sources confirm that this is just the beginning, with more audits planned for other high-earning professionals in the future.
In addition to medical professionals, beauty parlors in major cities will also be scrutinized, with FBR aiming to bring these businesses into the tax net. Sellers of expensive cosmetics will be included in the audit process as well, according to sources.
The paint industry is also targeted as part of efforts to curb tax evasion, with audits set to be conducted on private companies in this sector.
To manage the increased workload, FBR has hired 600 private auditors to assist in audits across various sectors. An additional 200 auditors are expected to be brought on board in the coming days, with the total number of private auditors reaching 2,000.
FBR sources emphasize that all private auditors will be required to maintain the confidentiality of taxpayer information during the audit process.
