Karachi’s new traffic rule: heavy fines for repeat violations
The Additional Inspector General (AIG) has announced a new traffic system in Punjab where first-time traffic violations will be waived. However, motorists who commit the same offence again will have to pay both the new fine and the previously waived one.
According to the AIG, citizens who pay their challan within 14 days will get a 50% discount. He also noted that fines in Lahore are much higher than in Karachi, making the new system more convenient for Karachi residents.
The updated fine schedule will be implemented once approved by the Punjab cabinet. Authorities expect the new system to improve traffic discipline and road management, while fine rates in Punjab are likely to increase in the coming months. Citizens are advised to pay their challans on time to avoid extra penalties.
The revised law aims to enhance traffic order, provide convenience to the public, and encourage timely payment by offering relief on the first mistake.
New Fines for Traffic Violations in Punjab
Punjab has also introduced strict penalties under a new ordinance approved by the Governor and issued by the Law Department. The rules aim to reduce speeding, signal violations, overloading, and air pollution from vehicles.
Key fines include:
Speeding: Motorcycles PKR 2,000, Cars PKR 5,000
Signal Violations: Motorcycles PKR 2,000, Three-wheelers PKR 3,000, Cars PKR 5,000, Vehicles over 2,000cc up to PKR 15,000
Overloading: Three-wheelers PKR 3,000, Vehicles under 2,000cc PKR 5,000, Over 2,000cc PKR 10,000, Trailers PKR 15,000
The new system is designed to make roads safer, reduce traffic violations, and encourage responsible driving across the province.
