KP Approves Feasibility Study for Baran Dam, Marwat Canal

KP Approves Feasibility Study for Baran Dam, Marwat Canal
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has approved the feasibility study for the Baran Dam and Marwat Canal system, which will cost 20 million rupees for the PC-II.
The Planning and Development Department (PDD) said that an estimated Rs 1.44 billion has been allocated for the Baran-Marwat Dam and canal project for this year.
According to the PDWP, climate change has reduced the flow of the Tuchi River, and alternative sources for the dam need to be found, whereas the older feeder channel of the Kurram River has become inactive after the dam raising.
However, the capacity of the new feeder channel, even 10,000 cusecs, is insufficient for continuous water supply.
Furthermore, the irrigation department has also decided to conduct a hydrological study. The continuous flow of nearby rivers and drains will be assessed for the Baran Dam, and in case the friability study proves ineffective, there will be no expenditure on detailed design.
