Bilal Bin Saqib Resigns as Special Assistant to PM on Blockchain and Crypto

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC), Bilal Bin Saqib, has stepped down from his position as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (PM) on Blockchain and Cryptocurrency.

Bilal Bin Saqib would carry on his services as the Chairman of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority despite his resignation.

However, the Cabinet Division notification issued, dated October 13, stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has accepted Bilal Bin Saqib’s resignation, effective from August 21.

In fact, previously Bilal bin Saqib was appointed as special assistant on May 26, along the rank of minister of state.

He was, whereas on August 1, appointed as the Chairman of the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority for a period of three years on a pro bono basis.

It is pertinent to acknowledge that the Pakistan Virtual Regulatory Authority is an autonomous federal body governed by a multi-stakeholder board, which includes the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, and the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue.

The Authority aims to prevent illicit funds, protect consumers, and create opportunities in the areas of fintech, remittances, and tokenized assets.

Forbes revealed that Bilal bin Saqib is also the co-founder of a social organization called Tayaba, which Forbes has described as an organization working to solve the water crisis in Pakistan.

He was additionally awarded an MBE in recognition of his services to the UK’s National Health Service back in 2023.

For the unserved, the MBE is a British honor awarded for outstanding service or achievement that has had a lasting and significant impact on society.
