Military Leadership Pays Tribute to Major Muhammad Akram on 54th Martyrdom Anniversary
The military leadership of Pakistan paid tribute to Nishan-e-Haider recipient Major Muhammad Akram on his 54th martyrdom anniversary, ISPR reported on Friday.
Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of Air Staff, solemnly commemorated the day.
Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed, while leading a company of the 4 Frontier Force Regiment in the Hilli sector during the 1971 war, showed extraordinary courage and determination. On 19 May 1971, he held his defensive position firmly, denying the enemy any tactical advantage. On 3 December 1971, he led an assault on heavily fortified enemy positions, destroying three enemy tanks despite severe injuries. He embraced shahadat on 5 December 1971, leaving behind a legacy of unmatched bravery and devotion to duty.
The armed forces described his heroism as a lasting symbol of Pakistanโs military spirit. โOn this solemn day, the Armed Forces reaffirm their resolve to honour the legacy of all martyrs who laid down their lives for Pakistan,โ the ISPR statement read. Major Muhammad Akramโs sacrifice continues to inspire generations and reminds the nation of the courage and commitment of its soldiers.
