Federal govt tightens action against political leaders over May 9 riots
The federal government has started strict action against people accused of spreading political unrest, especially in connection with the May 9 riots.
According to sources, the government has decided to place the founder of PTI and several senior party leaders on the Exit Control List (ECL). This means they will not be allowed to travel abroad.
The names included in the list are Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Umar Ayub, Fawad Chaudhry, Shibli Faraz, Ali Amin Gandapur, Shehryar Afridi, and Usman Dar. The list also includes Shireen Mazari, Zartaj Gul, Musarrat Cheema, Kanwal Shauzab, Sheikh Rasheed, Sheikh Rashid, and Major (R) Tahir Sadiq.
Raja Basharat and Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi are also among those facing travel restrictions.
Sources say that a total of 132 political leaders have been added to the ECL. The Punjab Home Department has sent the complete list with recommendations to the federal government.
The decision to add these names to the ECL was taken in the context of the May 9 riots. The ECL Committee had already sent its recommendations for final approval to the federal government.
This move shows that the government is taking serious steps against those linked to political unrest and violence.
