ECP Refuses to Recognize Barrister Gohar as PTI Chairman, Rejects Independent Senators’ Request to Join PTI
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has refused to recognize Barrister Gohar as the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and has also rejected the request of independent senators to join the PTI. In response, Barrister Gohar announced that he would approach the court.
The Election Commission rejected the request of independent senators to join the PTI, saying that you have no legal right to include independent senators in the party. The Election Commission clarified its legal position on Barrister Gohar in a response letter.
In its response letter, the Election Commission wrote that Barrister Gohar demanded that the application of independent senators to join PTI be accepted, even though the PTI intra-party election case is pending. And the PTI itself has obtained a stay order from the Lahore High Court. Barrister Gohar cannot be recognized as the PTI chairman at this time, nor does he have the legal right to induct independent senators into the party.
Barrister Gohar confirmed receipt of the Election Commission’s response letter and announced that the matter would be taken to court, saying that the Election Commission has not yet recognized our intra-party election nor issued a certificate.
When our Senate elections were held, independent senators joined the PTI. I sent that letter to the Election Commission on November 13. I received their reply dated November 26 today, in which they said that we do not recognize them. This is very unfortunate. We will take this matter to court. Anyway, it is pending.
Barrister Gohar also rejected the possibility of banning PTI, raising the question that if PTI is not a registered party according to the Election Commission, how can it be banned?
