Transporters Announce Strike in Rawalpindi and Islamabad Tomorrow Over New Ordinance

07 December, 2025 16:08

Transporters in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have announced a strike tomorrow in protest against the amended transport ordinance and the heavy fines imposed for violations.

The chairman of the United Transport Association stated that “all bus terminals will remain closed tomorrow” in support of the wheel-jam strike.

Irfan Niazi, Chairman of the United Transport Association, said the strike will take place across Punjab and “may continue indefinitely.” He urged the government to understand their difficulties and resolve the crisis, emphasizing that “imposing a fine of 2,000 rupees on a motorcyclist who earns 25,000 rupees is unjust.”

Goods transporters in the city have also announced full support for the strike organized by the Pakistan United Transporters Action Committee.

Shakeel Qureshi, President of the Goods Transport Association Rawalpindi, confirmed that “all terminals in Rawalpindi will remain completely closed on December 8.” He criticized the new traffic regulations and fines introduced by the Punjab Assembly, calling them oppressive and a heavy burden on transporters.

Describing the amendments to customs laws as “economic murder of transporters,” Qureshi urged the government to immediately withdraw these regulations. He added that “public interest is being ignored in government decisions, which is unacceptable.”

The planned strike is expected to disrupt transport services in both cities, affecting daily commuters and goods transportation.
