Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezishkian, on the occasion of the International Year of Peace and Trust in Ashgabat today.

During this cordial meeting, the two leaders appreciated the strong support provided to each other when both countries faced external aggression earlier this year.

Expressing satisfaction over the successful holding of the 22nd meeting of the Pak-Iran Joint Economic Commission earlier this year, the prime minister called for increasing the volume of bilateral trade and activating border markets and stressed the need for both sides to continue working together to strengthen border security and strengthen bilateral cooperation through the Islamabad-Balochistan transport network.

The two leaders also discussed the regional and global situation. The prime minister said that the Afghan government should take meaningful action to address Pakistan’s serious security concerns regarding terrorism emanating from Afghan soil.

The two leaders also discussed ongoing peace efforts in Gaza.
President Pezishkian said that Iran is keen to further strengthen its relations with Pakistan.

This meeting reflects the close and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran, which are bound by their shared history, culture, and faith. The two leaders agreed to continue regular high-level meetings and consultations to further strengthen bilateral relations.

The Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini.
