Government Debt Rises by Rs 12.1 Trillion in 20 Months

Islamabad: Details of the federal government’s debt during the first 20 months have been revealed, according to which there has been a significant increase in government debt during this period.
According to the data, the total debt of the federal government increased by Rs 12,169 billion between March 2024 and October 2025.
The State Bank of Pakistan report states that during this period, domestic debt saw the largest increase, reaching Rs 11,300 billion, while external debt increased by Rs 869 billion.
According to the documents, by October 2025, the federal government’s total debt had increased to Rs 76,979 billion, while in February 2024, this volume was Rs 64,810 billion.
The report further states that as of February 2024, the central government’s internal debt was Rs 42,675 billion, which increased to Rs 53,975 billion in October 2025.
Similarly, with regard to external debt, it has been reported that in February 2024, the volume of foreign debt on the federal government was Rs 22,134 billion, which exceeded Rs 23,000 billion by October 2025.
