Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has announced a nationwide protest on December 21 under the “Change the System” campaign.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that protests will be held in all divisional headquarters, where the party will outline its future strategy.
“Our demand is that the local government system be restored,” he stated.
He criticized the government for not holding direct party-based elections under Form 47. “The authorities are not ready to hold direct elections for political parties,” he added.
In Punjab, elections will be held under a non-party ordinance, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said. He also rejected the horse-trading ordinance, calling it unfair.
Commenting on the ruling party, he said, “The PML-N is not ready to hold local government elections. Even the mayor of Lahore is not tolerating them.”
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman further highlighted the economic situation in the country. “Unemployment is rising, and agriculture has been destroyed,” he said.
