LHC Declares Snooker Clubs Legal Business Activity
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ruled that operating a snooker club is a lawful and legitimate business activity.
In its verdict, the court set aside the trial court’s order that had directed the closure of a citizen’s snooker club, declaring the earlier ruling invalid.
The court emphasized that “running a snooker club is a legal recreational activity and that no law imposes a ban on such businesses.” It further noted that under the Constitution, “every citizen has the right to engage in lawful business.”
The remarks were delivered by Justice Jawad Zafar while hearing an appeal filed by citizen Muhammad Rashid.
The LHC also stressed that “businesses operating within the legal framework cannot be shut down for an indefinite period on the basis of vague or unsubstantiated complaints.”
Legal experts say the ruling reinforces the constitutional protection of lawful commercial activities and curtails arbitrary closures without clear legal justification.
