Foreign Policy Calls Pakistan a Winner in Trump’s New Foreign Policy

25 December, 2025 14:45

According to the world-renowned magazine Foreign Policy, Pakistan has emerged as a major “winner” while India is listed among the “losers” in President Donald Trump’s new foreign policy approach. The magazine states that the balance of power in Washington has shifted in Pakistan’s favor, marking a significant success for Islamabad’s foreign policy.

Foreign Policy notes that Pakistan has made a strategic comeback in Washington during President Trump’s second term, describing it as a quiet but decisive victory. The magazine adds that Pakistan achieved what many traditional US allies could not, once again becoming a valuable and effective partner of the United States.

According to the report, Pakistan’s smart and calculated diplomatic strategy has shifted influence in Washington toward Islamabad. Pakistan not only regained lost ground but also strengthened its influence during the Trump era, effectively redrawing the regional diplomatic map. Washington is now taking Pakistan seriously once again.

The magazine highlights Pakistan’s role in the arrest of a major terrorist attack mastermind, calling it a development that gave President Trump a political and security success. Pakistan also successfully engaged with the US within Trump’s transactional diplomacy framework. Issues such as cryptocurrency cooperation and deals on critical minerals were also included in Pak-US discussions.

Foreign Policy points out that President Trump’s personal closeness to Field Marshal Asim Munir has been a key factor in improving bilateral relations. The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio welcomed the Field Marshal and the Prime Minister at the Oval Office, signaling renewed trust. The magazine emphasizes that Field Marshal Asim Munir’s leadership became the central pillar of Pakistan’s return to Washington, giving a new dimension to Pak-US relations.

Pakistan’s military leadership strengthened Islamabad’s diplomatic leverage, making Pakistan’s voice more influential again in Washington. The report repeatedly identifies Field Marshal Asim Munir’s role as a decisive factor in the progress of bilateral relations.

Quoting Pakistani Ambassador to the US Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Foreign Policy states that Pak-US relations have significantly improved, though the ambassador stressed the need to convert this opportunity into practical and long-term outcomes.

In contrast, the magazine observes that Pakistan’s diplomatic resurgence weakened India’s position in Washington. While Pakistan is listed among Trump’s winners, India appears among the losers. Pakistan’s comeback is described as a diplomatic setback for New Delhi, forcing India into a defensive posture.

According to the report, US-India relations have fallen to their lowest point in two decades. President Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with India’s trade policies and continued purchase of Russian oil. As a result, 50 percent US tariffs on India remain in place, and a trade agreement between the two countries is still uncertain.
