Illegal Call Center Busted in Karachi, 15 Foreigners Arrested
Karachi: Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar and Additional Director NCCIA Tariq Nawaz addressed a press conference regarding an intelligence-based operation conducted by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
The Sindh Interior Minister said that an illegal call center was raided on December 18 as part of an intelligence-based action. During the raid, 15 foreign nationals were arrested, including two women. He said the suspects were involved in defrauding people through online scams.
According to the Sindh Home Minister, the accused used to transfer the defrauded money through Bitcoin and US dollars. He revealed that the operation led to the recovery of illegal gateway exchanges, thousands of international SIM cards, 37 computers, and 40 mobile phones. More than 10,000 mobile SIMs and six illegal gateway exchange devices were also seized from the suspects.
Zia Lanjar stated that the accused targeted citizens by promising fake online investment opportunities, including crypto currency and forex trading. He said the victims were shown fake profits through fabricated login accounts to gain their trust.
Additional Director NCCIA Tariq Nawaz said that the investigation team is working on further technical evidence, and more arrests and disclosures are expected. He added that the suspects were arrested from DHA, Karachi.
The Sindh Interior Minister expressed hope that more significant successes would be achieved as the investigation progresses.
