ISLAMABAD: United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is arriving in Pakistan today on an official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. The visit is being seen as an important development in Pakistan–UAE relations.
According to official sources, the UAE president will hold meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his stay. The discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations, trade, investment, and cooperation in the energy sector.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the visit will help further strengthen economic partnership between the two countries. Talks will also cover development projects and avenues for joint investment.
In view of the UAE president’s visit, a public holiday has been declared in Islamabad today. A notification issued by the Cabinet Division stated that the Pakistan Secretariat and all federal government offices will remain closed.
The Senate Secretariat and the National Assembly Secretariat will also remain closed. Judicial proceedings will not take place at the Islamabad High Court and district courts, while the cause list of the Federal Constitutional Court has also been cancelled for the day.
However, according to the notification, hospitals, banks, essential services, police, Islamabad administration, Capital Development Authority (CDA), Metropolitan Corporation, IESCO, and Sui Northern Gas offices will remain open to ensure that public services continue without disruption.
Authorities said strict security arrangements have been put in place, and the visit of the UAE president is being welcomed as a positive step towards strengthening bilateral ties.
