Karachi Double Decker Bus service launched: Fare, routes and full details
KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah have launched the Double Decker Bus Service in Karachi. The service was inaugurated on Wednesday and is seen as an important step to improve public transport in the city.
During the launch ceremony, officials explained the main features of the new bus service to the ministers. Sharjeel Inam Memon said that introducing double-decker buses was a promise made to the people of Karachi. He added that such projects are started to benefit a large number of citizens.
The double-decker buses will run on a 22-kilometer route. In the first phase, the service will operate from Malir to Shahrah-e-Faisal. Authorities also plan to extend the route to other areas of Karachi in the future.
Sharjeel Memon assured the public that the government will provide subsidies so that bus fares remain affordable. The fare will depend on distance and will range between Rs80 and Rs120 per passenger.
He further said that the Sindh government is committed to improving transport facilities across the province in the coming year. According to him, the Peoples Bus Service is already carrying more than 150,000 passengers daily, while the Green Line bus service serves around 65,000 passengers each day. He also confirmed that work on the Red Line BRT has restarted.
Memon emphasized that improving Karachi’s infrastructure is a shared responsibility. He said that Rs9 billion has been allocated for the development of industrial areas. He also highlighted Shahrah Bhutto as a modern road project aimed at improving traffic flow and road conditions in the city.
