ATC Sentences Adil Raja, Haider Mehdi, Wajahat Saeed, Sabir Shakir, Moeed Pirzada to Life Imprisonment
An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has delivered a significant verdict regarding the May 9 incidents and cases of digital terrorism against state institutions.
Judge Tahir Abbas Supra sentenced Adil Raja, Haider Mehdi, and Wajahat Saeed to life imprisonment on two counts each. Additionally, foreign-based journalists Sabir Shakir and Moeed Pirzada were also sentenced to life imprisonment twice.
Alongside these life sentences, the accused were handed a total of 35 years in prison under various other legal sections and were ordered to pay fines totaling Rs 1.5 million.
The court delivered the reserved verdict shortly after the completion of the trial, during which the prosecution presented a total of 24 witnesses.
In the specific case registered at the Aabpara police station, Sabir Shakir, Moeed Pirzada, and Akbar Hussain were sentenced, while Shaheen, Haider Mehdi, and Wajahat Saeed received their sentences in the case related to the Ramna police station.
At the prosecution’s request, the court conducted and completed the trial in the absence of the accused, a procedure permitted under existing anti-terrorism laws.
