Usman Khawaja Announces Retirement From Test Cricket
Veteran Australian opener Usman Khawaja has announced his retirement from international Test cricket, with the final Test of the Ashes series to be the last match of his career.
During a press conference at the Sydney Cricket Ground today, Usman Khawaja announced that the final Test of the Ashes series will be the last and 88th Test match of his career.
Usman Khawaja said he will continue to play for the Brisbane Heat in the BBL and will maintain availability for the Queensland Sheffield Shield.
Khawaja said, “I want people to remember me as a humble cricketer who enjoyed the game and entertained the fans.”
Born in Islamabad, Khawaja moved to Sydney at a young age. He made his first-class debut in 2008 and his Test debut in 2011.
Khawaja, who has scored 16 centuries in Test cricket, is among 18 Australian batsmen to score more than 15 Test centuries. He has also played 49 matches in limited-overs cricket, including 40 ODIs and 9 T20Is.
